Past history has demonstrated a need to periodically renourish the beach to off-set erosion and protect the shoreline during periods of shoal migration and attachment.
In 2008, the City of Isle of Palms received a SC Department of Health and Environmental Control Office of Coastal Resource Management (OCRM) permit and a US Army Corp of Engineers permit for beach restoration on the northeast end of the Isle of Palms in front of the Wild Dunes community. The permits allowed 885,000 cubic yards of sand to be pumped onto the beach from an off-shore source.
